Oh wow, Jackie, I had no idea about the layers and layers of legislation! Great post - and how very kind of you to share the recipe.

We used to keep goats but never made their milk into anything other than butter and cheese - oh, and for all that time the only milk we had in the house was from them. Dad had found a way of cooling the milk really really quickly so it never tasted goaty. I love the idea of soap, though! 🫧🐐🧼

We're currently at the 'just milk' stage - just one goat in milk, and yes, we chill it quickly!

Once upon a time I made lots of cheese and attempted to make yoghurt - though that was my nemesis I fear. I've tried all ways and not succeeded at good yoghurt.

I don't think we ever made yoghurt from it, come to think of it! I'll ask Mum next time I see her - I wonder if she ever did? The cheese she made was a soft, spreadable cheese a bit like Boursin, mixed with herbs and a TONNE of the most pungent homegrown garlic. The cheese used to be passed around the table with the question 'Would you like some garlic on your bread?' 🤣
